What is the Health Occupations Aptitude Exam?

The Health Occupations Aptitude Exam (HOAE) is a aptitude test used by colleges and other educational institutions throughout North America to assess applicants to various healthcare programs such as nursing.

The HOAE is designed to measure a candidate’s skills, abilities, knowledge and attitudes in areas deemed necessary to succeed in the chosen educational program, and ultimately in the chosen career.

The HOAE consists of five parts:

  1. Academic Aptitude
  2. Spelling
  3. Reading Comprehension
  4. Information in the Natural Sciences
  5. Vocational Adjustment Index

The information tested for on the HOAE is based on the subjects and knowledge students in North America should have learned in high school.
